Templates give Boost a head start on common grant documents — and you can build your own for the documents you write again and again.
Opening the template bar
- Go to the Assistant page.
- Click New Template in the left sidebar.
This opens a bar of template tiles you can choose from, including the built-in templates below and any custom templates you’ve created.
The built-in templates
Each built-in template asks you a short set of questions, then has Boost generate a first draft using your answers together with any grant instructions, project context, documents, and saved answers you’ve already added:
- Grant Proposal — “Generate a Standout Grant Proposal”
- Needs Statement — “Craft a Compelling, Heartfelt Statement of Need”
- Project Abstract — “Unleash your project potential with personalized abstracts!”
- Organizational Background — “Tell Your Nonprofit’s Story”
- Letter of Inquiry — “Kickstart Your Grant Proposal Journey!”
- Budget Narrative — “Write a Persuasive Budget Narrative”
- Letter of Support — “Write a Persuasive Letter of Support”
- SBIR Phase I — “Write an SBIR Phase I Proposal”
There’s also a Rewrite Existing Content template for cleaning up and improving text you already have — see Using the AI Assistant for more on rewriting.
To use one:
- Click the template’s tile.
- Fill in the fields it asks for (many will pre-fill with details from your organization’s profile).
- Submit the form. Boost creates a new conversation and generates your draft there.
Using a built-in template uses a Boost, the same as any other AI writing action.
Building a custom template
If your organization regularly writes a certain type of document, you can build a reusable template for it instead of re-explaining it to Boost every time.
- Open the template bar and click Create a Template.
- Under Add instructions, describe what you want Boost to do — this becomes the reusable instructions behind every question in the template.
- Under Add Questions, type a question into the Enter a question box and click Add. Repeat for each question or section you want the template to generate. Each question you add appears in a list, where you can remove any of them.
- Click Save.
- In the Name this template window, give your template a name and click Save again.
Your new custom template now appears as a tile in the template bar, labeled Custom template.
Free accounts can create a limited number of custom templates before needing to upgrade for more.
Running a custom template
- Open the template bar.
- Click your custom template’s tile.
- Confirm you want to run it.
Boost creates a new conversation and generates one response per question in your template, using your saved instructions as context for each. Running a custom template uses one Boost for each question it answers.
Editing or deleting a custom template
- Open the template bar and find your custom template.
- Click the three-dot (⋯) menu on its tile.
- Choose Edit to change its instructions or questions — update the fields and click Save — or choose Delete to remove it permanently (you’ll be asked to confirm).
